  • Dynamics of Addiction and Criminal Behavior (10 hours minimum)
  • The Criminal Justice System and Processes (10 hours minimum)

  • Case Management and Counseling (10 hours minimum)
  • Criminal Justice-Specific Ethics (6 hours minimum)

Please see the “Package Contents” section below for the complete list of courses included in this package.

Certification Requirements

  • Education Required: Bachelor’s degree or current CRADC certification.
  • Work Experience: 4,000 hours of criminal justice addictions work experience, completed within the last 10 years.
  • Supervised Hours: 100 hours of direct supervision across the 4 CCJP performance domains, with a minimum of 10 hours in each domain.
  • State Exam: Passing score on the IC&RC CCJP exam.

Important Notes

Illinois CCJP uses a 5-tier system with education and experience requirements scaled by degree level. This package is designed for the Bachelor’s degree or CRADC holder tier. Applicants at higher education or credential levels require fewer hours. Bachelor’s/CRADC holders need only the CCJP exam — no CRADC exam required at this tier. Applicants must live or work at least 51% of the time in Illinois.

Renewal Requirements

40 CEUs every 2 years: minimum 15 CEUs in criminal justice-specific topics (Category I) and 25 CEUs in performance domain knowledge and skills (Category II). CCJPs who also hold an ICB AOD counselor credential need only 10 Category I CEUs plus proof of current AOD credential.
