Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

• Describe the core concepts of the Fifth Step, including the process of admitting to oneself and another person the exact nature of one’s wrongs.
• Identify the principles and dynamics illustrated through the narrative structure used to introduce Fifth Step concepts.
• Explain the therapeutic value of disclosure and confession in the recovery process as embodied in the Fifth Step.
• Apply workbook discussions, challenges, and self-questions to guide clients through the Fifth Step process.
• Describe the emotional barriers clients face when working the Fifth Step, including shame, fear of judgment, and vulnerability.
• Analyze how the basic principles and lessons common to all Twelve Steps apply specifically to Fifth Step work.
• Demonstrate strategies for creating a safe and supportive environment for clients engaging in the disclosure process of the Fifth Step.
• Explain how successful completion of the Fifth Step contributes to emotional relief, self-acceptance, and continued progress in recovery.
