What This Package Covers

Kentucky requires 180 hours of addiction counselor education for the LCADC and LCADCA. CEU Matrix’s Kentucky LCADC/LCADCA package covers 174 of the 180 required hours:

  • Screening, Assessment, and Engagement
  • Treatment Planning, Collaboration, and Referral
  • Counseling
  • Professional and Ethical Responsibilities

The 180 hours must include a minimum of 6 hours of ethics, 3 hours of domestic violence, and 2 hours of HIV/AIDS. The remaining 6 hours must be completed through another board-approved education source.

Please see the “Package Contents” section below for the complete list of courses included in this package.

Certification Requirements

  • Education Required: A master’s degree in behavioral science with clinical application (minimum 60 credit hours, or 30 credit hours with Advanced Placement track) or a doctoral degree is required.
  • Work Experience: 2,000 hours of supervised work experience with persons who have a substance use disorder.
  • Supervised Hours: 100 hours of direct clinical supervision from a board-approved LCADC supervisor.
  • State Exam: Passing score on the IC&RC AADC (Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor) examination.

Important Notes

The LCADC and LCADCA are issued by the Kentucky Board for Certification of Alcohol and Drug Counselors. The LCADC allows independent clinical practice; the LCADCA is the restricted-practice associate version for those completing supervised experience toward full LCADC status. Both credentials require the IC&RC AADC examination. At least 50% of renewal continuing education hours must be earned in live, face-to-face formats.

Renewal Requirements

60 continuing education hours every 3 years; at least 3 hours must cover ethics; at least 6 hours must cover suicide prevention training (required once every 6 years). At least 50% of renewal hours must be live and face-to-face.
