Certification Requirements
- Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in behavioral science / counseling.
- Work Experience: 4,000 hours (minimum 2,000 hours direct counseling).
- Supervised Hours: 300-hour practicum (minimum 10 hours in each of the 12 core functions).
- State Exam: IC&RC ADC exam.

Renewal Requirements
20 continuing education hours annually, including a minimum of 10 hours alcohol and drug-specific and 3 hours professional ethics.
