Certification Requirements
- Education Required: Master’s degree or higher in a relevant field.
- Work Experience: 2,000 hours (1 year full-time) of clinical work experience in the specific AADC domains. Must be currently employed as a drug and alcohol counselor at time of application.
- Supervised Hours: 100 hours of on-the-job clinical supervision with a minimum of 10 hours in each of the 4 AADC domains.
- State Exam: IC&RC AADC examination.

Issued by the Virginia Certification Board (VCB). This is an international, IC&RC reciprocal credential recognized and transferable to many other states and countries.
Renewal Requirements
40 continuing education hours every 2 years, including a minimum of 3 hours in professional ethics.
