Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

• Describe the core concepts of the Fourth Step, including the process of conducting a searching and fearless moral inventory.
• Identify the types of addictive and compulsive behaviors addressed by the Twelve Steps framework, including substance addiction, gambling, and process addictions.
• Explain the concept of external solutions for internal problems and its role in understanding addictive behaviors.
• Apply workbook exercises to guide clients through the process of self-examination and moral inventory.
• Describe the emotional challenges clients face when undertaking the Fourth Step, including fear, shame, and avoidance.
• Analyze how dysfunctional coping skills contribute to addictive behaviors and how the Fourth Step addresses these patterns.
• Demonstrate facilitation techniques for supporting clients through the self-reflection required by Fourth Step work.
• Explain how the Fourth Step moral inventory serves as a foundation for personal growth and continued step work in recovery.
