- Complete 270 hours of formal, board-approved education/classroom training.
- Work Experience Hours Required
- Complete 6,000 hours of clinically supervised alcohol and drug counseling experience.
- Direct Supervision Hours
- Supervised hours can be obtained by working in an alcohol and drug treatment or rehab facility under the supervision of a licensed A & D counselor who holds a Certificate of Qualified Supervision (CQS) issued by the Tennessee Board of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors.
- State Certification Exam
- Pass the NCAC Level I exam, administered through NAADAC.
