The New Mexico Credentialing Board for Behavioral Health Professionals (NMCBBHP) provides the Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor (CADC) credential. CEU Matrix offers a 270-hour course package that will fulfill this training (see below). As partial fulfillment of the requirements for this credential you will need to complete 270 hours of training specific to the CADC domains.
Additionally, if you already hold your CADC, we offer a 40-hour renewal package (see below). This package will allow you to choose your own trainings from our library of over 100 courses.

Package Education Hours: 300 Hours
- Degree / Education Required
- High school diploma/GED minimum. Work experience is tiered by degree level — a higher degree significantly reduces the required hours (see “Work Experience”).
- Work Experience Hours Required
- Supervised work experience in alcohol and drug counseling settings – tiered by education level: high school/GED: 6,000 hours; Associate’s: 5,000 hours; Bachelor’s: 4,000 hours; Master’s or higher: 2,000 hours.
- Direct Supervision Hours
- Supervised clinical practicum in SUD counseling, minimum 10 hours in each IC&RC ADC performance domain — tiered by education level: high school/GED: 300 hours; Associate’s: 250 hours; Bachelor’s: 200 hours; Master’s or higher: 100 hours.
- State Certification Exam
- Passing score on the IC&RC ADC exam.

New Mexico requires 300 hours of education specific to the IC&RC ADC performance domains for Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) certification, including a minimum of 6 hours in counselor ethics, as defined by the New Mexico Credentialing Board for Behavioral Health Professionals (NMCBBHP).
