Initial Certification Packages

Oklahoma Board-Approved Substance Abuse Certification Packages and Requirements

Oklahoma 135-Hour CADC Initial Licensure

Package Education Hours: 135 Hours

Degree / Education Required
Bachelor’s degree in behavioral science / counseling.
Work Experience Hours Required
4,000 hours (minimum 2,000 hours direct counseling).
Direct Supervision Hours
300-hour practicum (minimum 10 hours in each of the 12 core functions).
State Certification Exam
IC&RC ADC exam.

Required Content Areas (required hours)

Oklahoma requires 270 total clock hours of education in alcohol and drug counseling, of which 135 hours must be drug and alcohol-specific. This CEU Matrix 135-hour package provides 135 hours toward the 270 hour education requirement for the CADC.

 

Oklahoma 45-hour Co-Occurring Disorders Package

Required Content Areas (required hours)

Oklahoma requires 45 clock hours of specialized training in co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders for CADC certification, as defined by the Oklahoma Drug and Alcohol Professional Counselor Association (ODAPCA).

This CEU Matrix 45-hour package covers the full co-occurring disorders requirement. The training covers identifying co-occurring disorders and making appropriate referrals for treatment.

This 45-hour requirement may be completed as part of or in addition to the 270-hour CADC education requirement. For LADC/MH candidates, the co-occurring requirement may alternatively be met through a separate Board-approved co-occurring disorders certification.

Oklahoma requires 180 total education hours for LADC and LADC/MH certification, including 90 hours in drug and alcohol-specific education, as defined by the Oklahoma Drug and Alcohol Professional Counselor Association (ODAPCA).

This CEU Matrix 90-hour package covers the full 90-hour alcohol and drug-specific education requirement. The remaining 90 hours of general education are typically fulfilled through the candidate’s master’s degree coursework.
