State Certification Exam
CITs are eligible to sit for the CAC exam, but passing is not required for the CIT credential.

Required Content Areas (required hours)

Connecticut requires 100 hours of addiction-specific education for the CIT. CEU Matrix’s CIT package covers 97 of the 100 required hours (maximum allowed via CCB-approved distance learning):

  • Ethics (CCB-approved): 12 hours
  • Co-Occurring Disorders: 30 hours (minimum)
  • Addiction-Specific Electives: 55 hours

The remaining 3 hours must be completed through the CCB Certification Process Overview Workshop (live only; no equivalent courses accepted).

CAC-Standard: 6,000 hours of addiction-specific supervised work experience, including 2,000 hours of individual or group counseling. With a qualifying degree: Master’s (3,000 hours), Bachelor’s (4,000 hours), Associate’s (5,000 hours). CAC-Provisional: 2,000 hours of addiction-specific supervised work experience, including 1,000 hours of individual or group counseling.
Direct Supervision Hours
300 hours with no less than 10 hours in each of the 8 performance domains (for both CAC-Standard and CAC-Provisional).
State Certification Exam
Passing score on the IC&RC ADC exam.

Connecticut requires 300 hours of addiction-specific education for the CAC. CEU Matrix’s CAC package covers 225 of the 300 required hours (maximum allowed via CCB-approved distance learning):

  • Ethics (CCB-approved, SUD or COD specific only): 12 hours
  • Problem Gambling (6 hours)
  • Behavioral/Process Addictions (12 hours)
  • Medication Assisted Treatment (6 hours)
  • Trauma Informed Care (6 hours)
  • Infectious Diseases (Hepatitis C): 6 hours
  • Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment (100 hours)
  • Electives (SUD or Co-Occurring Related): 152 hours

4,000 hours of supervised work experience specific to the AADC Job Analysis.
