- Degree / Education Required
- LCDC II: Associate’s degree in behavioral science or nursing, or any bachelor’s degree. LCDC III: Bachelor’s degree in behavioral science or nursing. LICDC: Master’s degree or higher in behavioral science or nursing.
- Work Experience Hours Required
- 2,000 hours of supervised work experience in substance use disorder services. May be partially fulfilled through supervised internship or apprenticeship.
- Direct Supervision Hours
- 220 hours of supervised clinical work across core functions: 40 hours in screening, assessment, and engagement (including 25 hours in assessment); 70 hours in treatment planning, collaboration, and referral (including 35 hours in treatment planning); 90 hours in counseling (including at least 35 hours each in individual and group counseling); 20 hours in professional and ethical responsibilities.
- State Certification Exam
- LCDC II and LCDC III: Passing score on the IC&RC ADC examination. LICDC: Passing score on the IC&RC ADC examination, or documentation of a qualifying existing clinical license.
